Tyre Maintenance

Maintain Correct Tyre Pressure

Keep your tyres inflated to the manufacturer’s recommended pressure. Under-inflated tyres wear faster and reduce performance, while over-inflation can reduce grip and comfort.

Check Tyre Pressure Monthly

Tyre pressure naturally drops over time. Checking it at least once a month helps extend tyre life and ensures your GT Radial tyres perform as designed.

Inspect Tyres for Damage & Care Properly

Check for cuts, cracks, bulges, or embedded objects. Early detection can prevent blowouts and costly replacements.

Don't Ignore Tyre Age

Even if tread looks good, tyres degrade over time. Most manufacturers recommend replacement after 5–6 years, depending on use and storage.

Seasonal Tyre Checks

Temperature changes affect tyre pressure. Check inflation more frequently during seasonal shifts to maintain optimal performance.

Storing your Tyres

Store spare or unused tyres in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent rubber deterioration.

Rotate & Balance Tyres Regularly

Rotating tyres every 8,000–10,000 km promotes even wear. This is especially important for front-wheel-drive vehicles, where front tyres wear faster.

Balance your Tyres

Unbalanced tyres can cause vibration and uneven wear. Regular balancing improves ride comfort and extends tyre lifespan.

Monitor Tread Depth

Adequate tread depth is essential for grip, especially in wet conditions. Worn tyres increase stopping distances and raise the risk of aquaplaning.

Wheel Alignment Matters

Poor wheel alignment causes uneven tyre wear and steering pull. Proper alignment helps GT Radial tyres wear evenly and improves driving stability.

REPLACING YOUR TYRES

Tyres should be replaced when tread depth reaches 3 mm or less, as braking performance and wet‑weather grip reduce well before the legal limit (1.5mm in New Zealand).

Replace tyres sooner if you notice visible damage such as cracks, bulges, or cuts, or if tread wear indicators are level with the tread surface. Even if tread depth appears adequate, tyres that are 6–10 years old may need replacing due to rubber ageing.

Timely replacement helps maintain handling, stability, and consistent performance from your GT Radial tyres.

Proper Storage Extends Tyre Life

Store spare or unused tyres in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent rubber deterioration.

Quality Tyres Perform Best When Maintained

GT Radial tyres are engineered for durability and grip, but regular maintenance is key to getting the best safety, comfort, and value from them.

Driving & Fuel Efficiency

Well-maintained tyres reduce rolling resistance, helping improve fuel efficiency and lower running costs.

The way you drive also has a direct impact on fuel consumption and overall tyre wear.

Avoid carrying unnecessary heavy loads, as extra weight forces the engine to work harder and increases fuel use.

Smooth, steady driving helps improve efficiency... aggressive acceleration, hard braking, and sharp cornering all burn more fuel and place extra stress on tyres.

Maintaining a consistent speed where possible, especially on highways, can significantly reduce fuel use.

Using the air conditioning sparingly can also help, as it increases engine load, particularly during city driving.

Planning trips to avoid heavy traffic and combining short journeys into one longer trip can further improve fuel efficiency while helping your tyres wear more evenly.
